To investigate how issues of global sustainability relate to your own work, it is important to first be informed about how the issues are currently being addressed, with a consideration for the impacts the proposed solutions have at micro, mezzo, and macro practice levels. Existing policy responses, regardless of their actual outcome (you will likely discover unintended consequences), will provide you with context to explore hidden systems and possible impacts within your own community.
Public policies provide helpful insight into existing responses to problems related to the SDGs and, by extension, your social work research or practice. For this Assignment, you search for, select, and provide a review of policies that, at least on the surface, have been proposed or implemented to alleviate social problems related to the recent SDGs you studied. By reviewing policies specific to the context of the SDGs, in addition to your weekly Discussions that focus on how SDGs and policy impact nonprofit organizations, you will highlight the relationships between global, interdisciplinary socio-ecological issues and micro, mezzo, and macro social work practice implications.
Click on the United Nations website in the Learning Resources this week and revisit the SDGs from Week 1 and Week 2:
Goal 1: No Poverty
Goal 2: Zero Hunger
Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation
Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy.
For at least two of the above SDGs, identify a public policy pursuing change or innovations in this area (e.g., clean water). You can select one policy per SDG, or you can cover multiple SDGs within the same policy if the policy addresses more than one SDG—for example, a policy that could address both SDGs from this week might be “Renewable energy incentives to democratize access to clean water and sanitation in rural India.”
